Does anyone know what causes kidney stones in horses? We have an 8 year old stallion who just underwent surgery to remove one of his kidneys. This from what I undertand is almost unheard of. It seem he had stones that ruptured his kidney and therefore make him septic and not feeling well. The vet said it could be from high ammouns of grain, but he is a good keeper and gets maybe 4 lbs. of grain a day. I am sure the vet will reccomend what to feed him from now on but has anyone delt with this before? Not a good thing to happen at the beginning of breeding season!
