Hi,
I have a seven month old qh colt. As of right now, I can only see/feel one testicle.
I have been reading up on here and many say the testicles may not drop until they are 3!
My problem is, he is pastured with his mom and I really don't want the issue of him breeding her..
would he even be mature enough to try to breed her, if both testicles aren't there?
thanks

Any equid - male of female - should be considered capable of breeding and impregnation/conception any time from 9 months onwards - even if there are no testicles [in the colt] apparent. In fact, to be sure, one would be safer removing them from the other sex's company anytime around 7 or 8 months.

The percetage of animals being sexaully mature at that age is small, but if you happen to be in the minority you'll end up with an underage pregnancy!

That you cannot palpate the testicle means little. In many cases the colt will withdraw his testicles rapidly upon being palpated!

And there are plenty of "immaculate conceptions" each year that prove that you don't have to see testicles or breeding in the youngsters to have pregnancies occur! :-)

YIKES! I do not want that to happen, especially with his own mother.
actually, i looked the other day and saw two small testicles, so he will be gelded asap.
