OK so I am new to this breeding thing and so is my Spotted Draft Stallion. My problem or should I say his is, he went out for his first breeding with a well seasoned mare, whom was more then willing. Anyways he jumped on and did his thing, but it seemed as though is penis was limp I don't think the mare was to impressed by this
Is this normal? Is there something I should be watching for? We will try again tomorrow and see what happens.
Any suggestions would ge great
He is a 17hh Spotted Draft stallion, and he is 4yrs old, and this is his first time
how old is your stallion? we have a 4 year old paint stallion that we thought there was something wrong with but he proved us wrong the other day when he bred our 5 year old paint mare. I think maybe there age can have alot to do with it. but if he is not to young or to old you may want to have him checked by your vet.
Cheri - It may be he is a late bloomer, but at 4 he should be ready to do his thing properly. It is probably just a hormone thing that will fix itsself with some time and patients, but you might have the vet run some test to be sure.
Cheri - It's prob just hormones fluctuating so let him take his time. He should level out and always be able to get it up by the time hes 5 6 at the latest.
