Any thoughts on how to best quell an amorous gelding who recalls his old stallion days? My vet has proposed (1) the progesterone shot; (2) daily regumate in his feed; or (3) the regumate implant. Any comments regarding effectiveness and cost would be much appreciate. The love-starved mares at the farm won't leave him alone and what's a guy to do?

Well the better solution would be to do surgery on that horse, since he has more than likely undergone an incomplete castration.( one testicle inside his body, or too much cord left, so the testoterone does not leave his system) Regumate has health consequences for the person feeding, especially for women and makes the vet rich! A complete castration would be your most economical decision. If you cannot afford that, send the horse down the road and next time you buy a horse, stipulate that you can return the horse if he is proud cut!
