Twins in the horse are almost always as a result of double ovulations (there have only been 3 or 4 cases of identical twins, so one cannot say "always", but it might as well be...!). The condition of "freemartinism" - which is related to reduced fertility - such as is seen in cows is therefore not an issue in the equine.
