Hi,
About four months ago my mare was in a paddock with an ungelded colt (he was only 10-12 months). And I had called my vet up and he came out and she was diagnosed with equine coital exanthema (Equine genital herpes). And only just today after riding I notice this large swelling in front of her udder. I bent down and out of curiosity squeezed the teat and this transparent, sticky liquid came forth, and the more I squeezed the more free flowing the liquid became and the more milky. It was odourless. Which tells me there is no infection. I've been noticing strange motherish behaviour from her of late too. She is more prudish and shy now. She's even stand-offish at times. I have also noticed she hasn't gone on heat for ages. She's been urinating more frequently and it has been rich and very yellow. I think she's pregnant and I'm about 75% sure. But it still strikes me odd that a colt who is at the most 12 months old could be successful and impregenating her, it doesn't make any sense! I suspect that if she is pregnant she would be about four to five months, but I know she is bagging up for sure. The udder is also very warm and moist and normally the skin is dry and flaky. Does anybody know what is going on? Please help!

Krystle colts can become sexually mature as young as 9 months of age. She very well may be pregnant. At four months of pregnancy though she should not be bagging up.
Can you have a vet check her? If she is pregnant there are things you would want to do to manaage her pregnancy.

Thanks cathy,
Is it possible for her to dripping just a little bit of milk maybe? she's not showing in the belly she is just dripping clear sticky liquid from the udder. Who knows maybe she is farther along than thought.

Thanks again.
