I came here last year when our MFT mare was expecting. She ended up losing twins. Anyway, we gave her the year off and are now ready to try again.
How long does it usually take to get results back from a uterine culture? Is it comparable to a Coggins time wise? I will have to have a Coggins and health certificate to cross the state line and wondered if I could have the culture done at the same time.
It will depend upon your location and where the sample is sent to culture it. It takes 48 hours to get the growth, plus time to get the sample to where it's going and the results sent back. If it's being done locally it could be as short as a couple of days, if distant, then a week.
Remember that a culture alone is useless!!! You must have a cytology smear prepared in conjunction that supports the result of the culture as being a problem - and remember that many vets do not do this as a matter of routine!
Thanks Jos,for the quick reply and the heads up on that. I don't know what my vet does. I will have to ask.
