My 15 yr old maiden mare seemed to have a very healthy breeding, prgnancy and birth. But the foal came out much smaller than it should of, with little muscle and body fat. It has taken 24 hours for the foal to stand unassisted. Is this just because it's her first foal or does she have old maiden mare syndrome?

There could be any number of reasons why your foal is small and weak. The oldest maiden mare I have ever bred was 14 years, and she foaled a perfectly healthy, strong, good sized filly. So, I don't think I would attribute it to your mare's age or from being a maiden. What was her condition like during the pregnancy? What kind of feed was she on? Was the foal born premature?
