My 27 year old AQHA mare has one side of her bag enlarged - she has not been around any studs and has not had any opportunity to breed, also does not have a pregnant belly at all. I'm worried about mastitis if she is "bagging up," and I'm wondering about other possible explanations. Do equines get breast cancer? I did post accidentally under "endocrine" thread as well.

Cushing's disease can cause hormonal imbalances, sometimes causing mares' udders to develop & even produce milk. Might be worth checking into, but if it is only one side, I'd be thinking tumor (probably cold to touch) or infection/mastitis (warm & probably uncomfortable). Best of luck.
