I posted this on the other forum also, but need feedback soon. Vet did 15 day check and found small conceptus (10 day) and CL not as distinct as he'd like - suggested regumate for 7 days to aid the uterus in recognizing the pregnancy and allow implantation. Would this be of any benefit, and could it be withdrawn after implantation with no ill effects? Thanks for any advise!
There will only be benefit from putting her on Regumate if your mare is suffering from an insufficient CL only. If the conceptus is destined to deteriorate (means EED) then all the Regumate will do is to prevent her from returning to estrus for another while and increase the risk for endometritis due to the prolonged luteal phase. There is no real way to determine whether or not your mare is producing no adequate amounts of Progesterone by the mere aspect of the CL. If anything I'd put her on Regumate preliminarily and have her blood progesterone value tested. Then if you've found it to be sufficient gradually wean her from the Regumate again as it then turned out not necessary. In the meantime I would schedule another US to see if the pregnancy is growing satisfactorily. Afterall you don't want to learn that the conceptus is in fact a uterine cyst Good luck.
