I have a friend that is in central NYS that has a mare that is almost 6 months along. It is her and her mares first. Her vet came out to do rhino and told her at 10 months give her a Selenium shot to prevent White Muscle Disease. As there is not a good sourse of Sel. in that area. They just moved to NY from another state.
I had mentioned to have her tested for sel. to see where she is at. As I have heard that too much is not a good thing either.
Does anyone have any experience on selelium and White Muscle Disease?
Thanks in advance!

My vet told me to get selenium licks. They are just like salt or mineral blocks, but they have selenium added to them. This way, the horse can lick whatever it needs, and i have not had any problems. hope this helps
