I have a mare that has had four foals. This mare is a "great milker". After weaning her last two foals she has shown signs of founder. She gets real tender on her front feet and has a hard time getting around for about three days. There is no permanent damage done as far as I can see. This mare does not get any grain, she is out to pasture during the summer. When I wean the foals she gets only limited grass hay then gets turned back out to fall (dry) pasture. Has any one ever had a problem like this and could she possibly have some permanent damage done in the future if this continues. Also what might I do to keep this from happening?
