This is the first time ever had any request for shipped seman. The horse is 18 and we have never done shipped. The vet near us charges $350 to come out and do the work and ship.Is this in line or too much.I don't want to get too much involved if I am not going to breed many mares.I do feel if I can offer this service I will breed more mares.Just need some information on a direction to go.Thanks Ronny

Hi Ronny, I don't have a breeding stallion, so don't have any "cost" figures from a stallion owners viewpoint. Jos will likely be a good source of information on the dollars/cents. With my mares, I breed with cooled shipped. Typically, you will see shipped semen fees run anywhere from $150-$300. I have seen as high as $400. The most I've personally paid (and seems like the norm) is $250 for next day shipment. Counter-to-counter/weekend shipments run $350-$400 on the average.
There's a range of costs depending upon who does it (if one is not doing it oneself), and Heather has pretty much covered the range.
There are articles in the articles section of the web site that cover the costs of getting set up from the stallion owner's perspective.
