Well, my Top Moon mare had an ultrasound on Saturday and she is pregnant...what's amazing is her 340 day mark will be on my filly's (Grace) 1 year birthday, June 12th.. We've also kinda got a surprise, the wild mustang that I "inherited" last year seems to be about to pop with a baby.. After the hurricane last year, most of our fences were down so we had to put all the horses together for a while (stud included)..I guess she had never been around a stud before and it must have thrown her into heat, I'll post some pics soon and get everyone's input!!! Happy waiting for everybody!!! |

How exciting about the mustang mare. Another one on the way for 2006. My mares are all getting closer to. One mare is at 6 1/2 months, one at 5 months, two at 3 months, and one at 2 months. I can't wait. |

My mare Cricket is bred to my black and white stud with 340 days at June 28th. Looks like you and I will be sweating it out together Sandra! This will be our second foal out of this mare and I'm really excited to see what these two produce. We just bought the stud a few months ago and have been gloriously happy with him. He's got the sweetest temperment, is a doll to breed, and is a gorgeous mover. Next summer can't come fast enough!! |

Kassie, you are gonna be so BUSY!!! Kerrie- June seems like such a long ways off doesn't it? It seems like just yesterday i was waiting for Maggie to foal.. Update on the mustang, yesterday, the baby was really active, she looks like she is gonna pop but i remember thinking Maggie would back in April and she went until June 12...Everything is such a blur from the hurricane until about Jan or feb. so I really don't know when they bred... I really didn't think they ever did.. What's the earliest in the year a horse normally comes into heat? I don't think she can go until Jan or feb. could she have come in in Nov or Dec? I don't know a whole lot about her since her owner moved away and told me to just go get her if I wanted her..That was late july last year..then the storm, then she was in with the stud... |

I know it is possible for some mares to cycle year round. Obviously most of them don't, but I guess your little Mustang mare didn't know that! Get some pics up soon so we can all ooooh and aaaah and get antsi with you!! |

My mare had her 5 month ultrasound and rhino shot a week or so ago. Everything is fine, which is great since she lost her foal last year somewhere between 3-5 months. That puts her due somewhere around 23rd of March. Hope we get a nice dry warm spring ! Deb |

Yay Debbie!! That's great news! Sorry to hear about last year, but I'm sure that just means you'll get something extra special come spring =) March will be upon us before you know it so hang in there. Sandra I know what you mean about them seeming huge from early on. Riding Cricket last winter was like trying to sit on a barrel..and she was only 7 months along! |

Thanks Kerri; Im looking forward to this little bundle. Its been a long wait. March will be here before we know it. Its dark here now by 6pm, which is depressing since it used to still be light enough to see at 9:30. Makes it harder to get the night chores done before dark. This will be her second foal, first one was a few years back now. She seems fatter this time around though it may be my imagination considering the foal is only the size of a rabbit LOL.... anyway. heres to all of us waiting on our own little bundles of joy. I know what you mean about it getting dark. The farm where my mare and foal are at is 20mins from my house, so by the time I get off work at 5, dash home to change and make it up there it's close to 6 and starting to get dark. Let me tell you just how much I LOVE scrubbing buckets and trying to feed in the light from my headlights! lol |

Kerri: I know all about feeding in the dark. I am at work at 6 am, so I am up at 4:30. Out to the barn around 5, and let me tell you, theres lots of pretty stars out at 5 am. Then its to the barn, find the feed bags, scoop the feed by the light of headlights and flashlight, grab an armfull of hay, most of which gets sent directly down my top LOL, and then fill the buckets. phewwwww. off to work until 2pm, then home, check the horses, let them out to pasture and off to second job a few days per week until 5pm., then home, scoop more grain, fill the hay feeders, pails, all before dark, which is now around 6-6:30. and tuck them safely into their stalls for the night. I'll be glad when I get the electricity hooked up back there so I can at least see if theres a skunk waiting for me with a grin on its face. Deb |

Kassie, your mare is so pretty. And the stud, WOW!!!! He's gorgeous. Unfortunately for me, I had a stud colt get to the mare before I could get them separated. Here's his picture - he's now 2 yrs. Not the most glamerous way to get pregnant, but it will be her first so we're excited. He's an unregistered Racking Horse, she's a registered Paint Breed Stock. Well I have one mare in foal this year she is a maiden. she is a sweet mare and a Takin on the Cash daughter out of a TB mare, she is bred to King Corona (full brother to Corona Cartel) top producer of racing QH winners and stakes winners in the USA. I am really excited about this foal. I know it will either be a dark bay or a seal brown like its dam Hope its a filly. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/cmpsp1/PICT0106.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/cmpsp1/PICT0092.jpg Here is the Stallion http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/cmpsp1/75b74f07.gif Kassie love the stallion and that colt WOW. Nancy it is so exciting having your first foal you take pictures of the mare all the time you read everything and you cannot wait for that little one to hit open air! I would like to tell you that you get less excited every foal after the first....but it is less, but the excitement is still there. Cyndi sometimes that is how it happens, at least he is nice looking, it could have been an ugly old plug. this foal may turn out to be a colorful filly with a gait that floats. Your mare is very pretty. |

Wanting to ask you all a question. Annie has started to stand off by herself. When we go to the farm she will leave the others just to come and be around us.In the field she is always off by herself. Just wondered what may be going on. |

Debbie, I remember him. He is so pretty. You are the one that encouraged me to get Koda tested since we thought he was a cremello. Well his results are E/e A/A Cr/Cr So he is a perlino. We are very happy about that. The picture above was taken when he was about 18 months old. He is 14.2 hands and still growing. I hope he will be close to 16 hands. Your boy is very pretty. I love paints. And the fact that is his homo for toby AWSOME! He should make some beautiful babies. Are you going to breed him next year? |

Kassie and Debbie, your stud's are beautiful. I've never seen a perlino or cremmello. How exciting. If I were to ever breed Chyna again, how would I know what to have as a stud? I'm hoping that there may be a way to get a multi-colored foal this time, but it will be anybody's guess. So i'm definitely open for suggestions. Ya'll are the best site I've ever found - it is' great to bounce our ideas and compare stories, really helps me out since this is a first time for us. It is alot of fun to see everyone's mares, please send udder shots too, since I've been wondering about the developmental stages in that area and nothing to compare too. For me its not too early. Jan - thanks for the words of encouragement regarding the stud colt. I think he is endearing and very lovable towards me. I took him away from his momma at 11mos, the folks said we could have him, if we could catch him. He was still nursing and it took a week of working an hour or 2 after work to gain the confidence needed to get them separated. He spent about 1month in the round pen with just me to feed and water. It was amazing how quickly he picked up on where the food and water comes from, now he's a puppydog around the pasture. I'm excited to have everyone on here, looks like we'll be going into late 06-early 07 on foal watch. I'm already bitting my nails. Didn't I read somewhere that we have a resident expert w/predicting foals/colts/fillies? I'd be interested to see what she thinks. I'm hoping for a filly. The nail test said colt. happy foaling fibes to all.....talk to everyone soon. Pleas don't be shy about positing udder shots too. P.s. is there anyone else out there that practices the John Lyons methods? |

THank you Gail, those were the best sites. Very thorough job and such great pictures. I loved it. I'm at work now, but looking forward to going home and really going through them. By my best calculations it would have been Mar/Apr 06 (I split them in mid April) when she was bred. I'm hoping for the latter because it gets very cold and rainy here in Feb. If you look at her picture above does she appear to look 6 1/2 mos along (for a maiden)? thanks again! |

Hi Nancy, I noticed your post above about Annie standing off by herself. Chyna is doing that too. Before she'd get separation anxiety if I tried to take her away from the herd, but now, she rarely cares. I see her all the time off by herself and no other horse anywhere near her. When I go out in the pasture, she always comes over and just stands there with me. We had one incident about 2 weeks ago where something upset her and she turned and bit me in the stomach. I have no idea why, I was just standing next to her with my arm over her back. I've owned her since she was 6mos and none of my horses have EVER bit anybody EVER. I got quite the shock. And a nasty bruise....So I'm guessing that our pregnant mares are going through some pretty awful hormone changes that they don't understand - is yours a maiden too? or is this just your first foal? |

Kassie: My perlino is the same genetics, add in the TT for homozygous tobiano I like that makeup as he can also sire the browns as well as the blacks. Just gives us more possibilities. I figure my boy will be around 16 hands, as that is what his daddy was. I also string tested him and it came out at 16 hands exactly. I sticked him at the beginning of October and he was 14'2, so hes grown from 13 hands in January when I brought him up from Indiana to Ontario Canada. Cyndi: To get a guaranteed multicolored foal, you would have to breed to a homozygous tobiano. That way no matter what, the foal will be a paint. Yes Kassie, I plan to breed him to my homo tobi bay mare and keep my fingers crossed for a homo tobi buckskin. I have attached a picture of the mare for you to see. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y4/canadianhorselady/Beckytrot3.jpg I know the foal will be a homozygous tobiano as both the mare and sire are, but a perlino and homo bay mare would give me the possibilities of buckskin, or palomino. If my mare was not homo for Agouti, AA, then I could get a smokey black too, but since she is, that means that she will never have a black bodied horse. All black would be limited to the tips such as a buckskin. Nancy: My mare also took to being a bit solitary when she was in her last 3 months. It was very strange as she is like a puppydog and every time i turn around shes right there.... so I did notice a bit of a change in her. She never became agressive or testy with me, so I don't know about the biting part, though I would assume I might want to bite someone if I was pregnant for almost a year too Deb |

Hey Cyndi the vet says she has foaled before but this is my first. I am excited and nervous too. I am going to try to find the lady who had her before the lady we got her from to see if she bred her. She was born in Colo. and somehow got to Tenn. anyway I am glad I have her now. And hopefully if everything goes well we will all have babies next spring. |

Debbie that is a gorgeous mare. She is just beautiful. That should be one nice baby from those two. And I did the string test on Koda as well and he came out to be about 16 hands as well. Sounds like our two colts are very simular, other than one being a paint. I love paints. I only have one as of now though. I would eventually like to get another one. But you have some very pretty horses. |

Nancy and Cyndi, My mare Cricket was very attached to her herd until about the last month or 2 of her pregnancy. Then she would just stand off by herself looking miserable and not eating. I would bring her in at night and she's gobble down her dinner and eat a little hay, but otherwise just stand looking out the window and occasionly nudging her belly. She also got VERY territorial and wouldn't let any of the other horse near her. She was always at the bottom of the pecking order, but in those last couple months I swear she moved herself up to the top almost overnight! She did get a little testier with me, but mostly I think it was just because she was so uncomforable. I guess what I'm trying to say is your probably headed toward the homestretch, so keep up updated and post some pictures!! |

Ok, this is way off the subject, but I just figured out how to change a horses color: http://www.yellowhouseranch.com/Kodashow2%20005.jpg http://www.yellowhouseranch.com/scottyasabay.jpg ON COMPUTER LOL. Although it would be very cool if you could change their color in Real Life lol. I had fun doing that. I read that a horse should look good because of his physique and not his color, so I changed my stallions color from the Champagne to a bay to see if he would still look good. And he does. . Anyhow I just thought that was funny. |
