We had a mare die out of the blue, and left her six and a half week old horse colt without a mother. WE NEED help on knowing what to do with him. We have a paint mare who has colt at her side, and has been nursing both colts pretty well so far. (the last 2 days) We have her colt and the orphan together in a pen across the walk way from the paint mare. We have been feeding the colts off the mare every five hours and then eight during the night hours.
If anyone has advice, or knows anything about this PLEASE help.
where are you located? if your foals are both sucking the same mare then she should raise both of them given there is no problems with the mare. Just feed her very well and keep her in good health.
