I am looking at breeding my mare to a Stud but have started looking at the pedigrees and am concerned they are way too close. Could those of you who know more about line vs. inbreeding give me your thoughts? I'm pretty much leaning towards not doing it though. I do not think that is too close at all, unless one or both has undesirable traits. I have had arabs that were bred much closer than that and had awesome horses...my child hood arab gelding had same grand sire on bith sides...and he was the best quietest horse ever!!!
Thank you for taking a look, Conformationally I like both horses, and think they compliment each other well. I was just concerned about the closness of Ansata Karima and the amount of Nazeer, I was afraid it would be getting to inbreeding!
I'm not concerned about temperment, Both horses are very well behaved, I bought the mare last year as a 10 year old, never been ridden. She was very easy to train & is the most intelligent horse I've owned, and she LOVES the trails. I get comments on how well behaved she is and people are shocked when I tell them she has been ridden for less than a year, espically for being older! I don't let any of my arabs act like idiots, I gain thier trust and respect, and respect their intelligence and they are all well behaved horses that I am very proud of, especially since I have been the one to put them all (3 arabs and 2 quarabs)under saddle (I hate saying "break them"), and never had a rodeo, especially since I'm pretty much entirely self taught by trial and error in my training methods, no fancy stuff here.
boy you sound like me... I have had arabs, qh's, saddlebred, thouroughbreds,ponies,and some crosses and the 2 that have stayed the longest..my arabs...(my mare i bought at a year old, had her 16 years now, and her daughter(my first foal experience) who is 11.others have rotated in and out. I love them, they are so loving, have personality, and very intellingent. I have put both under saddle as well, first day saddled is the first day ridden...no rodeo from them either! I am hoping the same from my quarab colt from this spring(see him on foal brags on this site). I too am self taught by trial and error! nice to meet someone like me!
Yeah, I saw your little cutie! What outstanding color!! He is built a lot like my quarab mare, quarter hind but very refined head and neck! He should be awsome, it makes for a great look when they grow up, especially with that gorqeous color to top it off! My mare is just plain jane bay (she was out of a LOUD quarter overo stud and only got a star... Go figure!). The worst part is waiting for them to grow up because you know how great they are going to be! They do grow so fast though, my 4 month old seems huge now, esp after remembering back to catching her on the way out of mom (mare decided to let loose standing up) and having to use a dog blanket on her because the foal blanket was WAY too big!! Seems like she will be big enough to ride by next week... Have fun with your baby, he's a special one!
