Hi our foal is now a month old and I am trying to figure out his color or what he may become. His sire is Dun(kinda a bay dun with dorsal stripe, black points and zebra bars. Mom is a roan appy. The foal looks chestnut but has lots of white hairs through his body especially his belly and legs. Is lighter around his eyes and muzzle. Will he roan? Is chestnut? do we just need to wait til he sheds his foal coat? What age do they do that?? Thanks Heres his pic
I personally would call him sorrel. Sorrels many times have that white that shows up in other areas, like your colt. The darker points will probabally fade, they are most likely just counter shading to hide the foal in nature. The colt can change shades many times, That is why I hate registering the foals so young. The foals will normally be pretty close to color when they shed out their foal winter coat as they turn a year old.
Looks like he will be a red roan to me..nice looking fellow..He could have some countershading as well.
