It's funny because none of these markings were there when he was born.(He also has them under his forelock, and on both sides of his flanks, and on top of his withers) Only later as the months passed did we start noticing the sabino spots more and more.
I'm curious to see what's under there when he sheds out this spring soon! This is what actually saved him from being in the breeding stock only registry. It's kind of backwards, but as long as he had the DARK skin spots of the alotted size for APHA, he qualified for the regular registry!
That's what I thought they would say at UC Davis, Kay, but they said he wasn't. Now I forget the reason, as it's been a while, but they did say he wasn't considered a maximal sabino. OH WAIT, now I remember! It was because he only carried ONE sabino gene, and not two! But he is white as can be. Actually he JUST started to get a little sprig of black hair in his forelock which he never had before which is neat. Makes me wonder what will pop up as he ages. I haven't been on here in forever, so here's a recent pic of him. He will be 2 on May 16th this year.
Sorry I haven't been on here in quite a while I see I actually was debating over getting him gelded for so long, but I really want him for a riding horse, and didn't want to see him separated from the others, so he just got gelded. But as for his bloodline, I don't think there is really anything spectacular, though Mardelle Dixon is just off his dam's papers. He's got a lot of QH's in his papers, though I really don't know a whole lot about bloodlines. It would've been neat to see what he could have produced though, since genetically he is a buckskin.
Jennifer, What an eye catcher!!! He shares a birthday with our two year old colt. Only Bullet is almost all black. Very small star and two white legs. I think it is interesting how certain horses will throw such different coloring and color patterns. Like you said other then getting him tested there was no way to know he was a buckskin. He is gorgeous!!
