I had a colt born 2 years ago and he had rhinose so bad he had to be put down the next day.His nose was bent and one nostril was closed. The vet said once he was weened i would have to tube him to feed him .Couldnt see something live this way. My mare had a healthy colt last year,But im scared she might have one deformed again. Has anyone ever seen this? The vet said it really rare. Thanks
we have some aquatices up the road who have a wrynose horse. His isn't nearly as bad as yours was but they have bottle fed him his whole life and he's just a pasture ornament. They didn't ever breed his dam again but I think it was because of Nosey
My vet said it could have been that the foal was to big to move around much. And it looked like his leg laid on his face and formed it that way. I have bred the mare 2 times since then and and last years baby was great. I have 6 more weeks till that mare and another foal. Cant wait.
Wrynose is generally not a genetic thing. It is due more to developmental issues while in the uterus.
