I would like to breed my Appendix Quarter mare who is CHESTNUT... Her sire is SORREL, his sire was SORREL, and his dam was brown. Her dam is (DARK BROWN) BAY, her sire was CHESTNUT and I don't know the color of her dam.
I love a horse of any color, but would prefer not to have a CHESTNUT. I would really like to have a foal of a different color, like a roan, buckskin, grullo, gray... Is there any hope? |

if you breed to a cremello that would give you a palomino.. a perlino should also give you color. otherwise, I think there's always a chance of getting a red baby out of a sorrel.. (if I understand what I've read and been told correctly) |

If you are after grey I would say breed to grey,that is a dominant color in my herd as my stallion is grey and has only produced grey.You could also breed to a palomino paint and have color there also. |

If you don't want sorrel all you need to do is breed to something that is homozygous for a different color...
breed to a homozygous black for a black or bay foal
breed to a homozygous gray for a gray foal
breed to a cremello for a palomino
breed to a perlino for palomino or buckskin
breed to homozygous tobiano - you may still get sorrel but it will have some color

You can also breed to a bay stallion that is homozygous for the black gene (i.e. won't sire sorrell or chestnuts regardless) |

I have been trying to get color out of my mare. She is breeding stock,chestnut. I have bred her 5 TIMES and everyone is SOLID chestnut. My parents have a red dun stud that I get free breedings to. My mares dam was almost all white. Could their be a chance i could get color out of him ? Or should i find something with alote of white? |

Jennifer if you mare is solid she does not carry any of the paint patterns.  She will never produce a paint foal unless bred to a stallion that carries one or more of the paterns. |
