It depends on what color the mare was before she turned grey.

How would I find that out? would it be on her papers? Don't know if it helps but she has had 8 foals, 3 gray, 2 brown, 1 buckskin, 1 black and 1 sorrel. She actually has some very dark grey/black on her legs--from far away her legs look dirty. I will look at her papers when I get home but I don't think it says and there is no picture
Dorthy, Hard to say what base color you would get, but you have a 50% chance of getting a horse that will grey out and a 50% chance of getting a paint pattern if the stud is not homozygous. I doubt if her papers will say what color her base coat is as most registries will just classify a grey as a grey rather than listing their actual base color.
