I have a very very ginger looking chestnut mare who,8years ago, had a very ginger looking foal. I know her father was a bay (Standard bearer) not sure about her mother, Glenreeba. The stallion that I have just put her to was Bay as were all his daughters, sons, brother...
Am I likely to get a bay foal or will the chestnut override anyhow? Either would be lovely but I have been wondering....
If the stallion is not homozygous for black you have a 50% chance of getting a chestnut. If everything he has produced has been bay he could very well be homozygous for black and agouti though.
Kim, Agouti is the gene that restricts black to just the points. A bay is a black horse with the agouti gene.
