Hello! I hope someone can help me out. I have a Blue Roan Medicine Hat paint that I bred to a homozygous pure black stud. My mare is 99% white with pink skin and has Blue roan on ears(hat) ,chest,buutock-two blue eyes. Mares sire is loud black/white paint and dam is exactly like her except red roan. APHA classifies my mare as Sabino. What are color possibilities with this Medicine Hat? She is 210 days and i can't wait!
Medicine hats are homozygous for the paint gene, so no matter what color she/he comes out, the foal will be a paint/tobiano/sabino. The maximum white throws great patterns. Plus, she could still roan, too. Those are different genes affecting the white pattern, the tobiano and the sabino. Your mare has them both, but I'd say you have a 90% chance of seeing a tobiano result. Congrats!
