Okay, I am breeding my mare this year, and am trying to predict what color:

My mare, Kahlua, is by a chestnut stallion, with 3 stockings and a blaze. Her dam is a bay, I don't know any more about her than that.

Kahlua is a bay with a blaze, a stocking, and a sock.

Kahlua has been to 6 different stallions so far, the results were:

Kahlua + Bay Stallion = Bay mare (Rumour Has It)
Kahlua + Bay stallion = Very light chestnut mare (Kongnac)
Kahlua + Chestnut stallion = Bay Mare (Itzy Doll)
Kahlua + Brown stallion = Chestnut stallion (Zalute)
Kahlua + Grey stallion = Grey gelding (Fuerst Amendment)
Kahlua + Chestnut stallion = Bay filly (aborted)

Kahlua's daughter, Dolly (by chestnut stallion), was bred to a bay stallion, and produced a Chestnut filly.

The stallion I am breeding her to is
DNA Tested Homozygous for black pigment. Foals will be black, bay or brown in the absence of modifying genes.

Soooooo, any predictions?

She is just gettting bred this week :-) So, with any luck, she'll take on the first try.

Here pics are here: http://secretambitionstables.com/kahluanights.htm

And the stallion:

I would be pleased with anything, as long as it's healthy. But I would just love a black/very dark bay with chrome :-)

Bay or dark brown. You will have a couple of socks and some sort of facial marking. I don't think she will throw red with this stallion.

Doesnt matter if the dam throws e or E. Becuase the stallion is EE the foal is going to be black based. I think that the dam is AA based on offspring so I think that the foal is going to be bay.

I'm curious what color "brown" is.
Horses are either red or black based. Then you throw in the modifiers like agouti, creme, dun. Though I don't know that dun is an actual modifier.
So when you say brown, is it the seal bay or liver chestnut that you're talking about?
Thanks!

I believe they are most likely talking about seal bay.

Thanks, like I said, black or dark bay, with chrome, and it would be a miricle (of course any foal from this mare will be a miricle, but still) :-)

So, it sounds like there is no way a chestnut could arise? That would be good if there was no chance of chestnut.

Nope no chance for chestnut. tHe stallion is homozygous for black so he cant pass the one of the two genes required for the foal to be chestnut.
