I have a black stallion that I recently got and he has a blue eye. I was told by a mini breeder that it indicates that he is a carrier of the overo gene. Wondering if there is any truth to this?? |

So then that means that although he is solid black, (true black) with a blaze on forehead he could sire pintos? |

Depends on what you mean by pinto. Splash is not the tobiano or frame gene. Here is a link with some info on splash. http://equinecolor.com/splash.html |

Is that the only pattern that carries the blue eye? I thought it was just commen in all patterns under overo? |

Frame overo also creates blue eyes. If you have him tested for frame overo and hes negative then he is without a doubt splash. |

ok, can someone tell me then, why so many people are interested in buying this mare to breed? I am not much of a pinto breeder, more appaloosa....but loved this mare for her belly spot and blue eyes. What pattern is this, and what should I expect from her? She is currently bred to a 25" appaloosa snowcap stallion for 09. In past, she was bred to sorrel and white pinto, got a silver filly with white legs all the way to the body & black mane and tail with blue eyes. 2nd breeding, bred to black and white tobiano....got the silver again, but mostly white with blue eyes...what does this mean? Neither of the sires had blue eyes, just the mare. Thanks in advance. This will be her first appy breeding....with all the silver she throws, I was hoping for something amazing... http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii281/kdgilger/mistyreg2.jpg http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii281/kdgilger/DSC00702.jpg |

The off center bottom heavy face markings are indicative of splash. She could also have frame, but the combination usually produces more white. |
