Although the Spanish Stud Book for P.R.E. horses does not recognize grulla as a color, it appears my new filly has all the characteristics of a grulla....black face mask, shoulder bars, wide black dorsal stripe, leg barring in front and something that looks a lot like panther spotting on her back legs....very interesting and wondering if there is a test for dun factor? ultimately she will be gray but the true genetic color is always exhibited at birth... |

Terry, Yes, I am pretty sure that U.C. Davis has a test for Dun factor. Is the mare homozygous for grey?? I was just wondering if that is why you said she would turn grey. |

I figured you had a good reason for saying that just thought I would ask. |

UC Davis does now have a dun test, but I do not believe that they are testings PREs. They supposedly look dun phenotypically, but they test negative so something else is going on, and they dont want to offer the test to them until they are sure. |
