"Derby" was born last Saturday and this is my first foal. Can anyone tell what color he may shed out to be? The pictures are close on his color, but he is truely black, but his legs and the edge of his tail have a silvery shimmer to them. No white hairs at all, just a sheen to them. The only other color is brown on the inside of his ears. This was a suprise pregnancy (we bought the mom in October, not knowing she was pregnant!) so I have no idea what color the dad is. Has anyone seen this type of coloring before?

Lisa, sounds like you have a Smokey Black, beautiful and more rare. What color are the parents and definitely send a pic. Photobucket is easy and free.

Thanks. I'll have to try it at home because my work blocks that sight. The mare is a paint pony. She looks at first glance to be a true black and white (tobiano) but has one brown spot and a little brown near her muzzle. I am trying to track down the daddy! I am very curious as to how big and what color he is. The girl I bought her from in October bought her in July, so she must have just gotten pregnant just before then.
