I am looking to buy my first Tennessee Walker baby and unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to meet him yet! He is over 7 hours from us...anyway...his daddy is a homozygous bay tobiano EEAA and his mommmy is a gray. She is heterozygous for the gray gene and her base color is sorrel. Right now, he is a bay tobiano coal black mane and tail...will he go gray or stay bay?

I'm VERY confused!

Thanks!

Your colt has a 50% chance of turning gray. Unfortunatley, only time will tell.
Does he have the lighter colored rings around his eyes? If so, he will defentialy gray out.
Any pics you can share?

Bloodlines would definately help with this one. In the walking horse registry, lots of grey horses are registered incorrectly. I have a Pusher mare the look just like her sire. She is registered as grey roan. But she is actually a black roan. Her last foal, I thought would turn grey (was born light sorrel and had the rings around her eyes) but actualy turned the prettiest strawberry roan! It just takes time and I know it seems like forever, but you'll just have to wait it out.
