Can anyone help me out? I'm trying out the color calculator for my mares and have a question about the heterozygous/homozygous stuff. How do I determine what my mares are? Here's what I have... Mare 1: Is dark bay. Sire was blood bay, dam was pure black. Mare 2: Is blood bay. Sire was blood bay, dam was chesnut. Mare 3: Is dark bay, parentage unknown. All three mares are in foal to same grey stallion. I'm not sure what color stud was before greying out, however was told he produces bay and black foals. He has produced grey, however I think (but not sure) that these grey foals were out of grey mares. Can anyone give me any ideas? Thank you!
First mare is heterozygous agouti but could be homozygous black. Second mare heterozygous black possibility of being homozygous agouti. Third mare unknow. Has the grey stallion ever had sorrel/chestnut foals?
No, I don't think the stallion has. All I was told (and from what I've seen) was he produced bay or black. I think all his grey foals were out of grey mares, but I'm not sure. Thanks for the info. I'll have to try the color calculator again!
