Here is a picture of my 1 week old filly http://img263.imageshack.us/my.php?image=foal2tf5.jpg As you can see she is black with a greyish tinge to her coat, especially over her legs. Her dam is chestnut, by a chestnut, out of a chestnut. Her sire is a bay blanket spot appaloosa, no picture sorry. The sire is a Danish Knapstrupper so I am assuming both his parents were appaloosa too. It would be great if she stayed black but I have a feeling she is going to turn grey. |

She can not turn grey unless one of the parents is grey. |

Well that's good news, I'm not a fan of greys, they get dirty too easily. I'm pretty sure she's not going to turn chestnut! So maybe bay or black? |

A Watson- Your baby may still roan out. If he got appy genes from his Dad! Does he look like he has mottled spotting on his genitals, nose, anal area? Does he have the white sclera? These are all appy traits. If he had these I would bet he would roan out. |

A Watson, Your filly is black. A very pretty filly she is. When she sheds out, she will lose the lighter coloring. |

She doesn't have any mottled spotting, but saying that her dad only had a little on his nose, he did have striped hooves though. His blanket was very distinct, no roaning, and if you covered his blanket you would have thought he was a solid bay. I would love her to stay black, a few spots would be nice but I don't want to push my luck! She is a lovely, friendly filly, she's only a week old and she looks for attention from everyone that goes into the field. |

I found a website "Animal Genetics Inc." that has a color calculator, it's neat, check it out. http://www.horsetesting.com/CCalculator1.asp |
