Hi all, I have a palomino colt whos sire is a burnt buckskin. When i purchased the colt i understood his dam was a chestnut and thats also what it said on his rego (i never saw the mare)a friend of mine just purchased the mare and i found out she is a silver bay. How does this affect the colour of my boy's future foals? Also does this affect the colour of my boy when he matures? He is a very light at the moment with pink skin, he had clear hoofs as a foal and yearling but they have now changed to black!!! I am so confused.

cathy is right the silver gene is rampant in miniatures. Probably the dam is silver bay instead of chestnut. The problem is so many people incorrectly register the color of their horses. If hes carrying silver you will usually see silver streaks thru the mane and tail and see it in the bottom of the legs. (instead of white they will be silvery looking) He could be a silver palomino.
