I am just starting to learn more about the Taffy or Silver gene and was just wondering if there is anyone out there who has ever bred a horse with the Taffy gene to a horse with the Creme (Cc) gene? I have a miniature mare who I believe is a dark or blue Taffy and she is in foal to my buckskin stallion. I know that the Taffy gene is a dilute, but only dilutes black, whereas the Creme will dilute red. So, I am just dying to know what the outcome will be.

you could get a silver buckskin. which might resemble a palamino except that it should have at least a few dark hairs or dark roots in tail and or mane to show it had a dark base color. have you checked out www.equinecolor.com ?

I had quite a few people tell me that I could get a "palomino" colored foal. So, that is what I was expecting. Well, the resulting foal from this mating was born on May 5, and the result?..... a BLACK! So obviously my mare is a blue Taffy, which is black diluted by the silver gene. This mare is currently back in foal to the same buckskin stallion for '05, so we'll see what we get next year!
