I need to prove a point and can you bred a stallion to his daughter or is it son to mother or how does that work???? after much discussion am now confused not stupid just can't remember or get in touch with my usual info source for the answer. |

I believe it is son to mother, just because I have seen a few top stallions that are the product of their dam having been bred to her own offspring. |

Brother to sister, father to daugher, mother to son, aunt to nephew, uncle to niece - are all "inbreeding".
Another school of thought suggests that anything closer than 3 generations is inbreeding, although technically, anything that is related in bloodlines is inbreeding.

Anyone have an opinion on what may happen if the cloning of horses is allowed in Registries as far as inbreeding is concerned?

At this point cloning is so expensive it's probably not going to be used in horses extensivly. Plus, when you clone an animal, you are only guaranteed a *genetic* identical. Any environmental factors, developmental issues, ect can be different from the original to the clone. |

Inbreeding = pairs related horses, such as father and daughter, mother and Son, Full brother and sister.
Linebreeding = is the term by breeders to describe their programs based on multiple pedigree crosses to a single exceptional horse.
