What we're debating is if there may be any problems(other than the actual size difference in covering the mare) genetically if we use a miniature donkey. My sister has a 13.2 to 14 hand mor-ab that she would like to breed, and our cousin owns the donkey. Just up for some adventure I guess.   Sandy Posted on Saturday, April 26, 2003 - 11:57 am:        The only problem I could see you having with doing this, is there is a possiblity that when the foal is born, it will not be tall enough to nurse from its own mother. I guess it depends on the size of the miniature. If the resulting foal inherited a lot of the miniature genes, you have to realize that most miniatures are born anywhere from 15 inches to 20 inches tall. I breed both miniature horses and full-size horses, and this question has come up quite often among miniature horse breeders, and the answer has always been,"it's not a good idea". If you were to breed a miniature to a pony, that's different. I don't think it would be worth the adventure, you may end up with a foal that is physically unable to nurse from its mother. Unless of course your friend is up to bottle feeding the baby. Hope that helps!
