We use sterile equipment for all our AI procedures, but wanted to find out if it was necessary to use sterile tubes for shipping or if nonsterile would work. We're leaning toward the sterile, erring to the side of being over cautious than not to.
We get ours through Grenier Bio-One (that link should take you to their listing for centrifuge tubes). You cannot buy them directly from them, but you can contact them and they will provide you with a dealer that services your area. They sell both sterile and non-sterile centrifuge tubes.
As for which is best - sterilized or non-sterilized - obviously sterilized is better, but it is actually unlikely that the non-sterilized tubes would contain any pathogens, as dry plastic will typically not support pathogens. If you decide to use non-sterilized and have any doubts you could try having some swab cultures taken and grown to determine if there are any pathogens present in the non-sterilized tubes.
