I am in the market for a few Equitainers to use for my own stallion and mares. I have been reading HRI's website, however I cannot come to any conclusion as to which style is better. Does anyone have any advice, pros/cons, words of wisdom? Thank you!
The centrifuge tube model is cleaner to work with - less potential for leakage - but means that you HAVE to send 57.75 ml insemination doses, which may be a problem for some people.
The older cup-style models work OK, but one tends to get leakage with some of the semen containers used (baby bottle liners etc.). There is more flexibility in volume of shipment, which can be useful and the cup container is practical to use when testing semen/extender combinations at the beginning of the breeding season - you can only use 2 extenders with the centrifuge tube model!
Having just read what I wrote, it sounds as though I favour the cup-style, but I really don't! I actually prefer the centrifuge tube model, but there are situations where it will not work as well as the cup-style (and vice-versa).
We purchased a used equitainer...in perfect condition, but no instructions. What is the order of placement for each piece? Does the isothermalizer go in first followed by the 2 coolent cans? Thats how it was shipped to us. Not sure, please help. thanks
You can go to www.equitainer.com and they have instructions, with photos, of how the containers are to be assembled. Good luck!
