Does anyone have any information on how to put together a Colorado AV? I recently purchased one from Exodus breeders but it came with no instructions and when I asked for some they said they didn't have any. Maybe there is a web address giving that information???

It's sort of easy, and sort of hard!! :-)

Click here so we have a picture of one put together to reference.

You will probably have got 2 (or more) latex liners. One may be straight, one tapered. Take the straight one and place it through the outer case, allowing a little more to extend at the end with the wider rim.

Now comes the first hard part... but before you go any further remove sharp objects such as rings from your fingers, and trim your fingernails if necessary! If you don't you'll be likely to put holes in the latex liner.

You are going to exert some energy and stretch the liner that is protruding from the end, and fold it back over the widened "shoulders" of the AV. Yup... I know... it's really hard to do!! Note that it is easier to do if the liner is warm than if it is cold.

OK... now you've done that (we hope!), you're going to repeat the action on the other end, but prior to doing that, you have to make absolutely sure that you do not have it twisted inside the AV - make sure the folded edges are going straight up and down, no twists.

You need to have the liner pulled about as tight as you can (assuming normal strength!!). If you do not, when it is filled with water, it will be too loose, and the stallion will push up a "wave" of latex liner ahead of his penis, not get the stimulation he requires, and even if he does ejaculate, will end up with the semen travelling over the heated liner resulting in heat-shocked sperm.

Another tip - sitting on the AV (with the AV on a stool between your legs) can make it easier to stabilize.

OK... now for the other latex liner - the tapered one. Throw it out! :-) It is designed for use when you are not using disposable liners - which I hope is not the case!! There is really no reason why one should not use disposable liners - we hear regularly from people who's stallions we're collecting "our stallion won't use the disposable liner", and then we put an AV together with a disposable liner in it, and go and collect the stallion...!! Temperature of the AV is almost always the issue there, and the people that are having troubles getting their stallion to ejaculate in a disposable liner tend to have their AV's too cool. The final inside temperature should be between 45° and 54° Celsius - which is pretty hot!

Hopefully you have something that fairly closely resembles the picture we looked at earlier. You now need to take the elastic bands and looping them around each end preferably twice, hold the liner in position (I know it seems hard to believe it could come off seeing as how hard it was to get on, but it will!!!).

When it comes time to use the AV, place your disposable plastic liner inside it (again making sure there are no twists), fold back enough to trap under another elastic band at the "entry" end, and attach a baby bottle to the other end. You can buy special bottles for AV's, but they are ridiculously expensive, and a baby bottle works just as well - and you can also use a disposable baby bottle liner inside the baby bottle to maintain even more sterility and avoid more clean-up chores.

The (probably blue) hood goes over the baby bottle to protect it from getting cold in low temperature weather. It tightens around the distal end of the AV.

Hope this does it for you. If you have more questions, e-mail me privately!

Jos:

Thanks so much. This is just what I needed to know. I had the two liners and was wondering what to do with the second one. And, I remember you telling me to always use a disposable liner. I plan to make my first collection later on this week. Thanks again.
