would it be possiable to use transported semen from the US with a mare in Australia, or would that be 'pushing the boundries' a little too much?

Jamie, yes it is very possible. Frozen is the way to go here. With the costs involved I wouldn't depend on timely delivery of cooled semen shipments. Being in the U.S., we have succesfully transported to and from Russia and Brazil. I would seriously consider it for the "right" bloodlines.

P.S. Forgot to mention that you should check the Country/Governing body laws and regulations as well as the rules and reg. of the horses registry.
Ok. The only catch is is must be chilled, not frozen as by the American Miniature Horse Association's rules, which make it a huge hassle!! I would love to breed some of my top mares to stallions we just dont have access to, but CS would be the only way. Do you think is could be done??

I have never dealt with or know of anyone that has tried CS shipments from abroad. With a highly skilled repro vet and proper timing of the shipment and ovulation I would think it possible. Check with the stallion owner to see if they can assure overnite delivery. If they can the key to success at a controlled cost would be the highly skilled vet and your mares ability to settle with AI. It could get quite expensive for subsequent collections and shipments. Hope it turns out for you.
We here at GW Ranch have for the last 3 years successfully shipped FRESH semen from the USA to Australia and NZ. My 20 yr old stallion has gotten 15 mares in foal, most of them on one insemination dose. We are unfortuantely the only farm that has done it successfully to date...
