mare 340 days with brown discharge... Normal??

Postby kasey88 » Wed May 14, 2014 9:22 am

hi all,

mare is 340 days today, when she came in from field she had a brown discharge but it does't smell wich i presume is good sign, my question is, is this normal ie plug? or should i be concerned? I am awaiting vet to ring me to confirm but just wanted to see if anybody hear had this before foaling or not??
she has a huge bag, milk white/grayish have been testing milk and its been top of the strips on ph testing 9 for over a week but yesterday it dropped to 7.5 wich it still is today, calcium is testing at least 200 (all test strips go up to :? ) she has a relaxed/squidgy back end but vulva not as relaxed as it has been or doesn't look it anyway (think she is tightening up everytime i look lol) very sad looking, holding tail up and to side most of the time for last 3/4 days, butt rubbing on everything & uncomfortable! so i think she is just getting ready to foal but better safe than sorry!!

Thanks

Hard to say, so best to have the vet evaluate!
We're always happy to try and help, but don't forget to check the articles section
of the website too, which has a search engine to help you look for answers!

Know what you mean about the back end changing. My mare's seems to stretch and tighten like a rubber band.

Hope all is well for you and your mare and foal!
