When to stop waiting around

Postby Kho_magic1 » Sun Mar 30, 2014 3:19 pm

I have a 14yr old Arabian Mare that I plan to breed this year. Her last foal was 9 years ago. I bred her two years ago and she didn't settle and it was later in the year so I decided to wait until spring. Last year was a financial nightmare for my family so we ended up pushing the breeding another year.

Now I've been trying to follow her cycle so I can have her vetted and be ready to breed. She has been showing to my gelding (was a stallion until age 7 so is a good teaser now) for well over a month now. It's still early in the season but I'm wondering when would be a good time to quit watching her and have the vet look at her. I've just been trying to not jump the gun since I know this time of year can have those wonderful transitional heat cycles.

Thanks,
Michelle
