going to a show

Postby osuginger » Sat Jan 28, 2017 2:17 pm

Im breeding my mare in march. If she doesnt take I would like to try again in april. We are planning on taking her down to the All American youth show on May 11th. If she takes in either March or April is it safe for me to take her to this show. It is a big show and she only has been at this location once before. Its a 2 and half hour drive. She has been shown all winter long and is used to trailering. thanks

Yes showing is OK. We barrel race, Pole Bend, Trail Ride and Cattle Sort on our horses. They continue training and competition until their Third Trimester then they just get worked regularly to remain fit. Many people will ride the mare up until the day the foal is born! Keeping the mares worked and in shape will help making foaling process easier vs a mare that was thrown out to pasture and is overweight.
