False pregnancy?

Postby wolfwoman » Tue Jun 02, 2015 5:00 pm

My 16 year old American Spotted draft mare was last bred August 7, 2014 before I bought her for riding. She had not been confirmed in foal. I had ultrasounds done at 60 days and because her abdomen had enlarged, again at 218 days. Both times I was told she is not in foal. Today I noticed she is bagged up pretty well and her milk veins are prominent. Her abdomen is not huge, but is larger than when I bought her (and she is a draft horse). She has had 4 foals previously but that is all I know of her breeding history. She has not had a heat cycle that I have noticed since I bought her in October of last year. She would be 299 days today. Could she be pregnant or could it be a false pregnancy? Thanks in advance.
