Is there a routine post-foaling oxytocin protocol?

Postby EdA » Sun Apr 14, 2013 10:04 am

I tried to find it before posting here, but I was not successfull. Is there a "routine" post-foaling oxytocin protocol that I can use, as a preventive treatment, for a mare who can have some uterine fluid clearances issues? Is 20 IU enough, or too much? Each 3 hours? 4? 6? For how many days? Or do you simply wait until breeding and then assess the problem (if any) and treat accordingly only then? I tought it would be better to clear the uterus right away instead of waiting, but what is the consensus on this?

We're always happy to try and help, but don't forget to check the articles section
of the website too, which has a search engine to help you look for answers!
