Grade III biopsy due to fibrosis - ET possible

Postby HanoveriansRUs » Mon May 19, 2014 8:59 pm

Is getting a viable embryo out of a grade III uterus feasible?

Last year mare was a grade Ia. Can they really go from a Ia to a III in a single year?

The biopsy evaluates uterine condition based upon the sample taken. Depending upon what the result was, using the mare as a donor mare for ET may be an option.

If the low biopsy score is as a result of extensive endometrial fibrosis for example, then the chances of flushing an embryo are good as the embryo descends into the uterus at about day 5½ and is flushed at day 7-8, so is only exposed to the uterine environment for a couple of days. If on the other hand the grade III score is as a result of extensive uterine inflammation, the chances of an embryo surviving for a couple of days in that environment is minimal.

As far as the score dropping in the space of a year, if there was truly a change, the most likely cause would be a significant uterine infection, but another possibility is that the sample taken a year ago just happened to get a piece of the endometrium that was more healthy. Typically a single sample demonstrates a 94% accuracy about the entire uterine condition, but nothing is 100%!
