Help appreciated please.....

Hi everyone, haven't been here in forever!! Here's my story. I have a 15 year old Paint mare that I've owned since she was 5. She had 2 foals before I bought her. I never bred her. She has always been the sweetest and most in your pocket horse on this earth! Never been marish, and I never see her in heat! Always been a total sweetheart! In May, I did a breeding lease with a good friend that has 2 QH stallions. She came into heat shortly after she got there. They bred her, and she was fine about it. She came back into heat again and they bred her again. She came back into heat again, so they say she is not pregnant and returned her home to me this morning. To say this mare is the exact opposite is an understatement! She'll mount another horse, she acts studdy! I can't put her out with anybody now. What the hell happened?? Can she be pregnant?? She's a beast.... Thank you for your thoughts..

During certain stages of pregnancy, mares can display stallion-like behaviour in response to testosterone secretion by the fetus. It would therefore be essential to confirm if the mare is or is not pregnant. Bear in mind that some mares still display estrus when pregnant, and will even allow a stallion to mount and breed her. If she has not been confirmed "open" (or pregnant) by ultrasound, she should be.

If she was confirmed open by ultrasound, she should still be checked again to confirm this (mistakes are made), and also to check for the possible presence of a Granulosa Cell Tumour, as that too can produce the behaviour you outline (follow that link for an article giving greater details).
We're always happy to try and help, but don't forget to check the articles section
of the website too, which has a search engine to help you look for answers!
