stallion is not interested in collecting

Postby maryg48 » Fri Mar 27, 2015 11:02 pm

I have a stallion who is not interested in collecting. Last year was his first season to collect and was perfect...collected every time we asked, until the very last time and he had no intrest in the phantom at all. This year we tried collecting today for the first time this season and nothing. He gets an erection, jumps on the phantom and either can't find the opening to the AV or, if he does get into the AV, pumps a few times and then jumps off. Today we tried different mares, adjusted the temperature in the AV, added more lube, everything and no luck. We use a Lane phantom and an inset colorado AV...any suggestions? any other way to collect him? thanks!

How old is the stallion?

The self-serve breeding mounts have this problem. If a stallion fails to thrust, if the penis and AV are diverted off to the side, then often jiggling the AV can get the stallion thrusting again. With the built-in AV there is no ability to move the AV to promote the thrusting.

If you could give us some more details - age and condition of the stallion, temperature of the AV etc. - we can perhaps come up with some solutions, but in the meantime you might like to try blocking in the end of the breeding mount (make sure the stallion can't get his penis in there and get injured!) and try diverting the penis off to the side and collecting the semen by holding the AV there. If he stops thrusting, try jiggling the AV a bit - imagine how a mare moves under a stallion when being bred.
We're always happy to try and help, but don't forget to check the articles section
of the website too, which has a search engine to help you look for answers!
